Funding opportunities for non profits

CESRA Africa is excited to announce the initiation of a funding opportunity tailored for small, African-registered, and accredited grassroots charities, as well as non-profit organizations engaged in exceptional development endeavors. This Small Grant Programme is designed to empower organizations that exemplify the philosophy of enabling self-sufficiency, echoing the timeless wisdom, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

History of the Grant: The grant program draws inspiration from charitable organizations in Africa that adhere to the principle of guiding individuals towards self-help. These organizations prioritize prudent resource allocation, ensuring that every penny directly contributes to their impactful programs.

Mission: CESRA Africa’s foundation is built upon the pillars of independence, transparency, and effectiveness in grantmaking. It aims to support proven and replicable initiatives while remaining open to innovative approaches. The foundation advocates for self-reliance within charitable organizations and emphasizes approachability, responsiveness, and professionalism in all interactions.

General Guidelines: Offering a comprehensive overview, the grant-making programs specifically target small and straightforward projects. Geographically, the small grant program is open to charities operating anywhere in Africa.

Who Can Apply: African registered charities with an annual turnover of less than $30,000, actively engaged in projects falling within specified categories, are eligible to apply. Applicants must be members of CSR Accredited Charity, meeting the foundation’s accountability standards. Additionally, a commitment to annual auditing or independent examination of accounts is required, along with an agreement to showcase the funded project in CESRA’s publications and on its website.

Grant Programs: CESRA’s small grant program caters to charities with an income of less than $30,000. Charities exceeding this income threshold are directed to explore alternative grant opportunities from other agencies.

Funding Priorities: The foundation prioritizes projects that expand proven approaches and welcomes creative solutions to persistent issues. Emphasis is placed on preventative measures, early intervention, evidence-based interventions, value for money, and a clear understanding of short-term and long-term impacts.

Exclusions: The foundation does not fund general appeals, running costs, land or vehicle purchases, individual initiatives, grant-making charities, loans, deficits, endowments, building projects, or retrospective costs.

Application Timing and Re-application: Applications are reviewed every two to three months. Charities that have previously received a grant or applied unsuccessfully are encouraged to wait for two years before reapplying. Unsuccessful applicants are discouraged from reapplying with the same project.

Grant Priority Areas: CESRA’s small grant program focuses on rapidly supporting smaller charities involved in community/grassroots-level projects in primary education, health, sanitation, environment, clean drinking water, child and mother care, poverty alleviation, orphanages, safe homes, and combating African diseases.

Project Countries: Applications are welcome from various countries across the African continent.

Grant Amount: Grants within the Small Grant Programme range from $2,000 to $5,000.
